Travel by train with member Joan Doucette for a guided tour of In American Waters, a marvelous PEM exhibition which shows us that marine painting is so much more than ship portraits. In this exhibition, visitors will also discover the sea as an expansive way to reflect on American culture and environment, learn how coastal and maritime symbols moved inland across the United States, and question what it means to be “in American waters.” Be transported across time and water on the wave of a diverse range of modern and historical artists including Georgia O’Keeffe, Amy Sherald, Kay WalkingStick, Norman Rockwell, Hale Woodruff, Paul Cadmus, Thomas Hart Benton, Jacob Lawrence, Valerie Hegarty, Stuart Davis, and many others.

Meet at the North Station Commuter Rail at 9:45 a.m. for the 10:05 a.m. train to Salem (estimated arrival 10:35 a.m.) First, we’ll head over to the museum for our 11:00 a.m. tour with our favorite PEM guide, Henry. Next, we’ll have lunch at Turner’s Seafood. After lunch, option to return to the museum for self-guided exploration. Return to North Station on the 2:24 p.m. train (estimated return is 3:00 p.m.) Next train leaves Salem at 2:54.

BHV members and their guests: $20 ($5 for PEM members). Price covers PEM admission and tour. Lunch at Turner's and round-trip senior train fare are pay individually.
