From the ICA Boston, it’s a short water shuttle ride to the ICA Watershed to experience Purple, the immersive video installation by the acclaimed artist and filmmaker John Akomfrah. Akomfrah draws from hundreds of hours of archival footage, combining it with new film shot globally and a hypnotic sound score to examine the impacts of climate change on human communities, biodiversity, and the wilderness. Sited in the ICA’s converted industrial building, Purple resonates deeply with the Watershed’s harbor location and its proximity to the current and historical maritime industries of the Boston Harbor Shipyard and Marina. ICA guide MJ Shultz, will guide us through Purple, before we set sail back to the ICA Boston on the 12:30 p.m. water shuttle from Piers Park Sailing Center (a 2/10 mile walk to and from the Watershed). Next, relax over lunch at Sorrelle Bakery & Cafe before a self-guided tour of the ICA Boston’s exhibitions. Meet at 10:45 at the Water Shuttle boarding area at Fan Pier, just outside the ICA Boston, for the 11:00 Water Shuttle to East Boston. BHV members & guests: $12. Members of the ICA: Free. Lunch is pay individually. Please note: the docks to the Water Shuttle are accessible by sloped ramps and a few steps are required to board the boats.
