It really is all in your head. We're exploring the idea of mental wellness as it relates to healthy aging. Taking the discussion beyond the importance of maintaining physical wellness, we invite Dr. Jin Joo, a Geriatric Psychiatrist  to speak on the topic of mental wellness among older adults. Dr.Joo will speak about brain health and its components such as cognitive and emotional wellness. She will discuss self-management strategies to prevent illness as one ages.

About Dr.Joo:

Dr. Jin hui Joo is a geriatric psychiatrist and faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School who has worked for more than a decade as a clinician and researcher. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago, obtained her medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh and completed her psychiatry training and research fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to embarking on her medical training, Dr. Joo received a Master’s degree in international affairs from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy where she focused on U.S.- East Asian relations. Dr. Joo has received funding from the National Institute of Health and foundations to conduct health services research to develop and test psychosocial interventions for underserved older adults and served as a Co-Investigator on community-based intervention research to increase health literacy and deliver Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for depression to minoritized populations. Her goal is to develop non-traditional, community-based depression care services that use paraprofessionals such as peer coaches to engage a population that experiences persistent barriers to access. She also provides clinical care to older adults, specializing in depression and dementia with an interest in cultural issues in psychiatric care, and she supervises geriatric psychiatric trainees.
