Beacon Hill Village welcomes Bill Kuttner, to speak on the unique subject of reinforced concrete and it's role in Boston's history. Unreinforced cement has been around since ancient Rome. Reinforced concrete, however, dates only from the turn of the previous century. Like so many important inventions its birthplace was Boston. Given its usefulness and durability, its history, importance, and evolution can be illustrated by structures in our community that we see every day.
About Bill:
Bill Kuttner retired in 2022 from the Central Transportation Planning Staff (CTPS), a regional planning agency. During over 30 years at CTPS he worked on a wide variety of projects and studies. He has always been interested in history and serves as the president of the Shirley-Eustis House Association, a historic house museum in Roxbury. He’s also interested in industrial archeology and organized this presentation for the Middlesex Canal Association in 2018.
Conversations With... will begin with a slightly more abbreviated 15 minutes of socializing and refreshments with the speaker starting at 5:15 pm. Following the presentation there will be time for audience questions.
