MFA Tour: Graciela Iturbide’s Mexico With Kristen Gresh, Curator (10:30 AM)
Friday, May 3, 2019, 10:30 AM
Museum of Fine Arts
465 Huntington Ave
Graciela Iturbide’s photos of Mexico express an intense personal and poetic lyricism about her native country. Over the past 50 years, Iturbide has captured layers of Mexico’s diverse cultures and practices, as well as the struggles and contrasts across the nation. One of the most renowned Latin American photographers working today, Iturbide’s powerful photographs are anti-picturesque, anti-folkloric, and embody her empathetic approach to photography, in which, she says, she is “complicit” with her subjects. Kristen Gresh, the Estrellita and Yousuf Karsh Curator of Photographs at the Museum of Fine Arts, who worked closely with Ms. Iturbide in organizing the exhibit, will be our host on this private BHV tour. Gresh will discuss her curatorial process and offer unique insight into these indelible images. Thanks to the generosity of one of our members, there are 20 complimentary passes available to BHV members. Meet at the Huntington Ave. entrance promptly at 10:15 a.m. BHV members only. Free.
