Cancer with Kate Sciacca, NP (7:00)
Wednesday, April 7, 2021, 7:00 PM until 8:00 PM
Virtual; Zoom information to be provided to registrants in advance.
Join Kate Sciacca, the Village’s own volunteer nurse practitioner, for a discussion about cancer. The word alone causes fear and anxiety and, unfortunately nearly half of us will be diagnosed with some form cancer at some point in our lifetimes. Kate will provide an overview of the science behind cancer, types of cancer, recommended screenings and coping with a cancer diagnosis. This meeting will provide a valuable opportunity for members to share their experiences and concerns.
Kate Sciacca is a Nurse Practitioner who has been volunteering at Beacon Hill Village for over five years. She has collaborated with BHV to give monthly lectures regarding both health and illness to our members on a range of topics. Before moving to Boston in 2012 she received a BA in international studies at University of Denver. She then attended Northeastern University, receiving both a BS and a MS in nursing. She then completed the Harvard Interprofessional Palliative Care Fellowship. She is currently working at Brigham and Women's Hospital, developing a palliative care program for people with kidney disease. She has close ties with many members at Beacon Hill Village and enjoys connecting with the community through small group teaching, believing that knowledge is power, and where you get health information matters.
This virtual event is for BHV members only and is presented as part of BHV’s Living Well Ending Well series. Registration required (click on "Register Now" button at top-right once you're logged in) or by calling Beacon Hill Village at 617-723-9713. Only advance member registrants will receive an emailed Zoom link. Free.
