Backstage at Boston Ballet & “Giselle” matinee (11:50 a.m.)
Saturday, September 28, 2019, 11:50 AM
539 Washington Street
Registration is closed - Event is full
You are invited to the Boston Opera House for a “Front of House” tour, a performance of Boston Ballet’s “Giselle,” and an After Performance Backstage Visit. Learn about this stunning building, whose history began in 1928 as an Italianate/French (Versailles) styled vaudeville showplace built by Edward Albee in memory of his friend/show business partner, BF Keith. After 30 years of utter disrepair, a $54 million restoration returned this treasure as a prime Boston performance venue in 2004. (We will show you a tiny skull hidden by a master plasterer, leaving his trademark in a restored medallion.) Next, enjoy a performance of “Giselle” in this gorgeous venue. Following the performance, you will be escorted backstage, where many of the secrets of creating the magical effects will be on display. See up close how bringing the ballet into the building and fitting all the components in their designated place truly is a marvel. Meet at the front entrance of the Opera House, 539 Washington Street at 11:50am for your pre-performance tour. Performance begins at 1:30. Backstage tour begins approximately 15 minutes following curtain. BHV members, their guests, and prospective members: $52 all-inclusive. All areas are handicap accessible.
